MobiPocket, a file format that gained a lot of ground some time ago, was developed by the French company MobiPocket SA, founded in 2000. In 2005, MobiPocket.com was bought by Amazon. But what are the possibilities offered by the MobiPocket format?

Mobipocket™ ebooks
A substantial part of the ebooks is available in the MobiPocket format. Most ebook sellers have published them in this format, but a gradual change is taking place. With ePub, MobiPocket has a formidable competitor. Bol.com has already started to offer only ePub. Just like ePub, MobiPocket has also built in the option for DRM (Digital Rights Management), which is a requirement for many publishers to publish ebooks.

Mobipocket digital dictionaries
Another part of the file format is the Mobipocket™ e-dictionaries. This lets you install a Mobipocket dictionary on your ereader to quickly look up words or sayings.

Mobipocket™ eNews
A unique feature is the Mobipocket digital news feature, allowing you to put together your own digital newspaper yourself by means of the RSS eNews feature. It works very simply. With the Mobipocket reader software, you synchronise your desired RSS feeds to your own ereader with a click.

Converting text files into MobiPocket format
With the Mobipocket Reader software it is also very easy to convert Office files (such as Word, RTF, Excel, PowerPoint) into the MobiPocket format and transfer them to your e-reader.
