File formats
Current ereaders can handle more and more file formats. Ebooks also come in more and more file formats. But which are really important and what should you know about them?
In the subcategory on the left, you will find detailed information about file formats. Here follows a short list:
The most important file formats:
PDF, ePub and MobiPocket. These three file formats are the only file formats with DRM (Digital Rights Management support).
DRM (Digital Rights Management):
In order to combat illegal versions, we have so-called Digital Rights Management for books. When you pay for an ebook, this is included in the price. It is important for you to know which DRM is supported by your ereader. On this site, you can find this information on the page of the product in question under the heading Specifications.
PLEASE NOTE! No ereader whatsoever can read both Adobe DRM and Mobipocket DRM. So when you buy an ereader, take care what kind of file formats you want to be able to read and check if they can also be read in DRM on the ereader (again, under the heading Specifications on the product page, you can see which form of DRM is supported by the ereader).

- Adobe DRM: ePub (the most popular paid for file format and PDF DRM belong under Adobe DRM).
- MobiPocket DRM: the Mobipocket file format has MobiPocket DRM. On these websites, most Mobipocket ebooks are available. Amazon, that is, the Kindle, uses Mobipocket, too.
